Earlier, the Politico newspaper, citing anonymous sources familiar with the discussion, reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced his readiness to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine if the United States supplied Abrams tanks to Kyiv.

Later, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that the German chancellor did not require the United States to provide Abrams tanks in order to supply Leopard to Kyiv.

According to retired American lieutenant colonel Daniel Davis, Abrams and Leopard tanks, even if delivered to Ukraine, will not help the Ukrainian army turn the tide of hostilities and defeat the Russian Armed Forces.
