Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki considered today, Sunday, that Berlin's refusal to provide Kyiv with heavy Leopard tanks is "unacceptable," indicating his country's readiness to build a small coalition of countries ready to supply Ukraine with tanks.

"Germany's position is unacceptable," Morawiecki told the Polish news agency. "Almost a year has passed since the start of the war. Innocent people die every day. Russian bombs destroy Ukrainian cities...Civilians are attacked, women and children are killed."

The Polish Prime Minister added that he was waiting for a "clear declaration" from Berlin, allowing the delivery of German-made Leopard tanks from the countries that possess them.

Poland, which announced its willingness to hand over 14 tanks of this type to Kyiv, indicated that it is in discussions with about 15 countries in this regard.

Moravisky stressed that if Berlin refuses to provide Kyiv with tanks, "we will form a small coalition of countries ready to give some of their equipment and modern tanks to Ukraine, which is facing a crisis."

German hesitated

The Polish prime minister's remarks come two days after a meeting in which about 50 countries took part at the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany, with the aim of taking a decision on providing additional military assistance to Kyiv.

Morawiski criticized Germany's hesitation in this regard, and said that Ukraine and Europe would win the war even without Berlin, describing its position on the outcome of the Rammstein meeting as unacceptable.

The foreign ministers of the three Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) urged Berlin on Saturday to "supply Ukraine with Leopard tanks now," pointing to the "special responsibility" of Germany, "the first European power."

On the other hand, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that supplying Ukraine with offensive weapons would lead to a global catastrophe.

Volodin warned Western countries, led by the United States, that this approach would lead to retaliatory measures with stronger weapons, as he put it.
