A Chechen opponent in exile offers to surrender in exchange for the release of his mother detained in Chechnya.

Revenge on the families of opponents is common in this region, ruled with an iron fist by Ramzan Kadyrov.

Abubacar Yangulbayev was a lawyer with the Committee against Torture;

his brother, Ibrahim, leader of a Chechen opposition movement, Adat.

Both are longtime opponents of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, known for his brutality.

Openly threatened with death, the family fled Chechnya.

The two brothers found refuge abroad, but their mother did not have time.

In early 2022, she was abducted by Chechen police officers who forcibly brought her back to the region.

Since then, she has been imprisoned.

,” simply commented Ramzan Kadyrov, in one of these videos shot on the smartphone he likes to use to communicate.

Kadyrov, a follower of "family punishments"

And it is also through a video that, on Friday January 20, Abubacar Yangoulbaïev addressed the Chechen leader to offer him an exchange: “ 

If you are a man, Kadyrov, you must release her.

And since it's war between us, since the laws of Russia and Chechnya no longer exist, then I offer you to exchange it for me.

Women should not be touched.

Take me instead.

Ramzan Kadyrov is accustomed to these "family punishments" against those he considers his enemies.

In general, however quick to react when he is challenged on social networks, he has not yet responded to Abubacar Yangoulbayev's proposal.
