A judge in the Supreme Federal Court in Brazil ordered the temporary release of 464 people suspected of participating in the storming of power centers in the capital, Brasilia, while keeping more than 900 others in prison.

Judge Alexandre de Morais supported the temporary release of those arrested under certain conditions, such as putting on an electronic bracelet and preventing them from using social media.

Morais also ordered the detention of 942 people pending investigation, confirming the existence of evidence of their participation in "terrorist" acts during the storming and sabotage of power centers in the capital.

Last week, the authorities arrested Anderson Torres, Brazilian Minister of Justice under former President Jair Bolsonaro, as part of the investigation into the attack on the presidential palace and parliament.

Torres was arrested upon his return from the United States to appear in court, where an arrest warrant was issued against him on charges of "alleged complicity in the riots".

It should be noted that the judge in the Supreme Court announced earlier that he would include Bolsonaro's name in the investigation related to the storming and looting of power headquarters.

More than two thousand people have been arrested since January 8, when hundreds of supporters of the former Brazilian president stormed the presidential palace, the Congress building and the Federal Supreme Court square, calling on the army to intervene to isolate President Lula da Silva.

The storming came a week after da Silva was inaugurated and Bolsonaro left the country for the United States, after refusing to concede his defeat to his rival in the two-round presidential elections.

Da Silva had accused Bolsonaro of inciting his supporters to violence, and after the presidential elections that took place in Brazil amidst sharp division, there were fears that Bolsonaro's supporters would repeat the scenario of supporters of former US President Donald Trump storming the Congressional Building on January 6, 2021;
