• Peru President Dina Boluarte rules out resigning after the failure of the takeover of Lima

The Peruvian Police broke into the facilities of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos this morning to forcibly evict the protesters who remained in Lima after having participated in the takeover of the capital last Thursday.

A small army of agents

with armored vehicles collapsed the bars

of the academic compound to access its interior, after denouncing the university council that some of the people taking refuge there had injured their security personnel, in addition to stealing their vests and electronic equipment.

The protesters,

mostly students and indigenous people

, were reduced to groups, lying face down on the ground with their hands on their heads or on their knees.

They had remained on the university campus since Wednesday, the eve of the march that the following day turned into a pitched battle in the vicinity of Congress.

Denunciations of arrogance, abuse and mistreatment followed one another from the first moment before an intervention that was expected from the day of the march.

Immediately, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights demanded from the government "legality and proportionality" in the intervention, in addition to guarantees in due process.

The Prosecutor's Office also appeared at the facilities two hours after the entry of the police officers.

The shocking images of the dozens of detainees, handcuffed on the ground, immediately covered the Peruvian media and social networks.

"An unprecedented event in San Marcos,

university autonomy violated

to a greater degree. Nothing can justify the intervention," reacted Vladimir Cerrón, leader of Peru Libre (PL), the party of the radical left that supports the coup leader Pedro Castillo.

The government of

Dina Boluarte

has opted for a strong hand after the failure of the takeover on Thursday, which failed to fill the streets of the city nor to assault the facilities of the capital's power.

On the other hand, in the south of the Andes, the strike and protests to demand the resignation of the president and the closure of Congress continue.

A protester lost his life during the clashes that were repeated last night in Puno, bringing the number of fatalities to 56.
