The Secretary General of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, Ione Belarra, has defended a cap on the prices of the basic shopping basket, since it is "indecent" that the large distribution companies and their owners, that he has branded as "ruthless capitalists", "are making gold" due to the crisis derived from the war in

Ukraine

.

"It is indecent that the large distribution companies in Spain, that supermarkets such as

Mercadona

or

Carrefour

, are making gold at the expense of the economic crisis derived from the war in Ukraine",

Belarra

asserted in Zaragoza in the first act of the route that, under the slogan 'The force that transforms', his party has undertaken in view of the next regional and municipal elections.

In her speech, the leader of Podemos also considered "indecent that Mr.

Juan Roig

-president of Mercadona- is filling his pockets by being a ruthless capitalist, and it must be said clearly, they are ruthless capitalists".

In this sense,

Belarra

has highlighted that "the most effective and cheapest measures" are those of "public intervention in the economy", since "the invisible hand of the market" was the one that generated in the 2008 crisis "that thousands of compatriots will stay on the street".

"That is why we continue to defend public intervention in large-scale distribution to cap food prices so that people in Spain can live a little better," he added.

The event that the Aragonese capital has hosted, which has been attended by some 200 people, has also served to celebrate the first nine years of Podemos, a period that, for the minister, has been plagued "with emotions", work and "historic days " and that he has defined as "impressive".

Nine years of Podemos

In this sense, he has reviewed some of the "achievements" of

Podemos

, such as being "the first political force to put an end to bipartisanship in Spain" or the one that achieved "a sufficient majority to throw 'eme punto Rajoy' out of Moncloa and the most corrupt PP in the Government".

Along the lines of the party's merits, he has also stressed that they formed "the first coalition government of recent democracy", in what is "a more than satisfactory and quite impressive service record".

However, he has highlighted as "the greatest contribution of Podemos" in the history and political situation of Spain the fact that they have changed "the political culture" of the country, "especially" that of "the transforming left".

He has also praised the fact that the members of Podemos were "the first" to propose the cap on gas "from which today the whole world draws chests" and which is "a reference for Europe and for the world", something that has led Spain to be the nation "with the least inflation in the Euro zone, thanks to the recipes of Podemos".

Belarra has considered that "all the noise" and "all that display of savagery that the right is making is not a coincidence", but that it is a "consequence" of the fact that Podemos is "transforming as much as possible everything that they had said for decades that it was impossible".

To which he added: "What we saw a few weeks ago with a judicial coup against Parliament, at the seat of popular sovereignty, is of unprecedented gravity, it is shameful and it is a coup."

He has referred to the controversy sparked by the anti-abortion measures proposed by Vox in Castilla y León, an initiative that he has included in "a very powerful reactionary international" that is articulated "largely around attacking women's rights".

In this regard, he has stated that Podemos defends that "the right is stopped with more rights" and "advancing", at a time when he recalled that the Ministry of Equality has been "for a long time proposing a new abortion law" that , among other issues, "eliminate once and for all" the three days of reflection.

Finally, he pointed out that Podemos will aspire in the new political cycle that opens this year to be the majority force in all possible governments" since, in his opinion, "it has become abundantly clear that there are some changes that are only going to come when Podemos is the majority force".
