The verdict is in.

After 3:30 a.m. of deliberations and four days of trial, the Rhône Assize Court found Youcef Tebbal and Mohamed Yeloulle guilty of the death of Axelle Dorier on July 19, 2020 in Lyon.

Youcef Tebbal, 24, the driver of the vehicle that hit and dragged the young woman 807 meters, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for "violence with the use or threat of a weapon resulting in death without intention of give it”.

His passenger at the time of the incident, Mohamed Yelloule, was sentenced to 5 years in prison, three of which were suspended for "failure to assist a person in danger".

On the other hand, he will not be imprisoned since he will benefit from an adjustment of sentence.

Towards a call?

The Assize Court did not follow the requisitions of Advocate General Romain Ducrocq who had requested sixteen years of criminal imprisonment against the first and five years of imprisonment, including one year without "request for incarceration », against the second.

David Metaxas, his counsel, had already announced that he would appeal before the deliberation.

“If the Assize Court follows the requisitions, it will be a direct second round.

Sixteen years clearly, I do not accept ”.

On the family side, one of Axelle's brothers felt that the requisitions were "a shame".

Their lawyer, Mr. Versini, nevertheless welcomed this sentence as he feared that the prosecution would ask "below, twelve or fourteen years".

"In view of the horror of the facts and the suffering of Axelle, the sentence is satisfactory", he had dropped before the verdict.
