This budget should be increased.

According to information from Europe 1, the budgetary trajectory that Emmanuel Macron will announce this Friday will be around 410 billion euros for the period 2024-2030.

This is a significant effort compared to the last military programming law, at 295 billion euros.

However, there is no reason to revolutionize the size of the French army either in the event of a major engagement, especially since this envelope will be automatically reduced by inflation.

Several hundred million euros will therefore go up in smoke.

One billion euros has already been amputated to modernize nuclear deterrence in 2024.

To this slate must be added the disposals of French equipment to the Ukrainian army, as well as the transition effect between the old and new generation parks.

A tank or combat helicopter equipped with modern technology is more expensive to buy and maintain.

The volumes of material will remain measured.

"Yes, we are not at the level of the Russian army. But we are not the Russian army. We have NATO and we intervene in coalition", nuance a senior officer.
