Lund Municipality's vehicles are today 99 percent fossil fuel-free.

Among other things, it is the investment in environmentally friendly cars that has meant that the municipality has been named climate city of the year several times.

Biogas was the best option

When the decision to become a fossil fuel-free municipality was made in 2010, biogas was the best alternative.

Currently, biogas cars make up 72 percent of the car stock, which makes it one of the municipalities with the largest number of biogas cars.

The rest consists of electric drive and biodiesel.

- Biogas is a good fossil-free fuel.

In addition, it is circular when using waste and digesting manure.

And when we were about to start the conversion, it was much easier to get hold of, says environmental strategist Elin Dalaryd.

In the clip, you get to go out in a gas car and hear how the municipality will now try to reduce its costs going forward.

The region: "Been a bit of a shock"

Region Skåne has also invested in biogas to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.

73 percent of the vehicle fleet is powered by biogas.

Here, too, the rising biogas prices have been felt.

- We have paid significantly more for the exact same product, says Mikael K Nilsson, who is responsible for the vehicles in the region.

Biogas has been a good alternative because they go far on one tank and there can be long driving distances through Scania.

The total cost increase has not been calculated yet - but for 183 of the 588 biogas vehicles in the region, the cost of biogas has increased by SEK 1,118,312 in 2022 compared to the previous year.

- It has been a bit of a shock.

It does not feel good that taxpayers are financing it, but right now it is difficult to find other vehicles due to delivery difficulties, says Mikael K Nilsson.
