According to Pär Eriksson, project manager at the Swedish Transport Agency responsible for Klövasundet getting a new bridge, the Swedish Transport Agency has followed the bridge closely over the years with regard to safety.

At the last check, it turned out that the load-bearing capacity had weakened and that the situation had now become acute.

- We have tried to strengthen the support in the past and it has worked for a while, but at the last inspection the damage picture showed that we cannot remedy this further, he says.

The bridge, which was built in 1932, will be closed on Friday, January 20 and will later be demolished.

The idea is that a new bridge should be ready by the end of 2024.

- We know that the bridge closure affects everyday life for everyone who uses the road and the bridge because it extends the travel time.

We regret this, but we put safety first and therefore the bridge is closed, says Eriksson.
