10,000 millionaires flee Britain due to Brexit

The United Kingdom witnessed the departure of more than 1,000 rich people abroad in 2022, while the rich people continue to leave the country after its exit from the European Union (Brexit) amid a turbulent political climate and an exhausted economy, bringing the number since 2017 to 10,600 millionaires.

A new report by Henley & Partners Consulting revealed that there are a total of 1,400 people with an estimated wealth of $1 million or more who left the UK in 2022, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.

This compares to the exit of 2,200 millionaires from the country in 2019, 2,800 millionaires in 2018 and 4,200 millionaires in 2017.

Henley & Partners reported that the UK was registering millionaires before the vote to leave the European Union.

This shift partly reflects the move of high-profit traders and bankers from the City of London to European Union financial centers such as Paris and Milan.
