According to the publication, in the spring of 2022, officials from Ukraine stated that 20,000 mercenaries from 50 countries were serving in the Ukrainian army.
However, the newspaper notes, most of them, in all likelihood, returned to their homeland.
“It is believed that between 1,000 and 3,000 of these foreign fighters are currently active, most of whom serve in three battalions of the Foreign Legion,” the material says.
Earlier, a captured Ukrainian soldier said that there were many mercenaries in the Soledar region in the DPR, but they used mobilized Ukrainians as cannon fodder.
According to the acting head of the DPR, foreign mercenaries were captured by Russian soldiers in Soledar.
