The suspect in an attempted robbery of a tobacco shop in Orléans (Loiret) was arrested on Monday near the store after being recognized by a police officer.
Judged in immediate appearance two days later by the Orleans Criminal Court, the 22-year-old young man was sentenced to two years in prison, including one firm, reports France Bleu Orléans.
He was appearing for an “attempted extortion committed by a person deliberately concealing his face”.
On December 5, 2022, he had entered the store located in the city center, showing off a ball gun.
But the manager had put him to flight and the robber had left without any loot.
At the hearing, the defendant denied any premeditation.
However, a video shows him spotting the places and going to change before the flight.
The young man will also have to pay 2,000 euros in damages, has been banned from carrying a weapon for five years and from appearing near the store.
He was also sentenced to 140 hours of community service.
