A 35-year-old man was arrested at Avignon hospital (Vaucluse) and placed in police custody on Tuesday.

He is suspected of having attacked the nursing staff as well as the police, reports La Provence.

The 30-year-old had gone to the hospital emergency room to accompany his pregnant wife.

Unhappy to have to wait, the man allegedly attacked the employees and banged against the walls and windows.

The establishment then alerted the police.

Judging this Friday

The suspect, who had still not calmed down when the police arrived, allegedly bit one of the officials until he bled.

Very agitated, he finally had to be sedated by a doctor.

During his hearing, the Avignonnais explained that his wife was in pain and that he had lost his temper due to alcohol and cannabis consumption.

Declared criminally responsible for his actions following a psychiatric expertise, the accused must be tried before the Avignon Criminal Court this Friday.
