In a trial conducted under juvenile criminal law into the death of a drug dealer in Frankfurt, the Osnabrück Regional Court sentenced a 19-year-old man to eight years and six months in prison for murder, among other things.

His 21-year-old accomplice was sentenced Thursday to three years and six months in prison for armed trafficking with narcotics, a court spokeswoman said.

According to the court, the two Germans drove from Osnabrück to Frankfurt am Main on December 29, 2021 to buy a larger amount of marijuana.

When buying drugs, there was a physical altercation with the seller.

The accused, who was 18 at the time of the crime, fled and the then 20-year-old accused was prevented from escaping by the drug dealer.

In this situation, the 19-year-old fired a shot that killed the victim.

The 19-year-old deliberately fired the shot on a relatively narrow staircase and, according to the court, accepted the death of the victim, the spokeswoman said.

The young man acted out of greed.

Tried under juvenile justice

In the case of the second defendant, the chamber assessed the fact that he had contributed to the investigation of the crime and, in particular, testified as to who fired the shot, as a mitigating sentence.

He was originally charged with murder.

According to the court, however, there was no common plan of action.

Because the crime was tried under juvenile criminal law, both defendants were tried in their home town of Osnabrück and not in Frankfurt.

The punishment is also milder: in adult criminal law, murder is punished with life imprisonment.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
