The German anti-war film Nothing New in the West has received the most nominations at the British film awards known as Baftas.

The drama by director Edward Berger, which is running on Netflix, was nominated in fourteen categories, as those responsible for the Baftas announced this Thursday – including best film, best director, best supporting male role (Albrecht Schuch), as well as visual and sound effects and production and costume design.

"Nothing New in the West" is also Germany's Oscar candidate.

Coastal Irish tragedy The Banshees of Inisherin and sci-fi epic Everything Everywhere All at Once each received ten nominations in various categories, closely followed by biographical drama Elvis with nine.

The music drama "Tár" has five nominations - one of them for Cate Blanchett as the female lead.

Bafta boss Krishnendu Majumdar praised in The Guardian that the awards both "shed a spotlight on British film and really celebrate films worldwide".

This year's list of nominees for the Best Film award combines "a great variety, depth and a wide spectrum of different styles".

This year's Baftas will be presented in London on February 19 and will be hosted by British actor Richard E. Grant.
