“It is regrettable that there is a complete absence in the US State Department of more or less intelligent specialists on Belarus who could inform their leadership about the real situation in our country, about how the Belarusian people live and whom they support,” he said.

The representative of the department also noted that these specialists have nowhere to come from, since the American embassy in Minsk has not been functioning for almost a year.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken earlier announced Washington's imposition of visa restrictions against 25 individuals for "undermining democracy" in Belarus.

The republic promised to respond to the "short-sighted sanctions" of the United States.
