The man has previously claimed to have video of deserter executions carried out by the Wagner group.

The 26-year-old volunteered for the private military group this summer and says he signed a four-month contract.

The man's lawyer tells VG that he was deceived by the state propaganda and realized that the war was wrong as soon as he arrived in Ukraine.

When the four-month contract expired, he was reportedly told he had to serve another six months.

Then he chose to flee.
