It was reported through Taiwanese media that 1,000 boxes of Nongshim Shin Ramyun exported to Taiwan were discarded after pesticides were detected.

Taiwanese media outlets such as the Free Times reported, "The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration inspected pesticide residues in 'Shin Ramyun Black Tofu & Kimchi Bowl' exported by Nongshim and found 'ethylene oxide' at 0.075mg/kg."

Ethylene oxide is mainly used for sterilization and is classified as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer under the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration said that the product exceeded the permitted amount of pesticide residues and disposed of 1,000 boxes according to local regulations.

Regarding this, Nongshim said, "The substance detected this time is not ethylene oxide, but '2-chloroethanol', which is not a carcinogen."

"The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration announced that the detected amount was converted into ethylene oxide levels," he added.

In addition, it explained, "The product in question is a product for export to Taiwan, and as a result of domestic product analysis, the corresponding ingredient was not detected."
