The President of Vietnam suddenly announces his resignation

Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc submitted his resignation on Tuesday, days after rumors circulated that he would soon be sacked as part of a wide-ranging anti-corruption campaign, state media reported.

The official VNA news agency said that Phuk had submitted his resignation from the positions he held, left his job and retired

Such a sudden departure is unusual in Vietnam, where a communist regime keen on stability usually orchestrates policy changes carefully.

The resignation follows the sacking of the two deputy prime ministers, as part of an anti-corruption crackdown that has also led to the arrest of dozens of other senior officials.

The agency confirmed that Fuk assumed his political responsibilities as a leader after many senior officials, including two deputy prime ministers and three ministers, committed violations and irregularities that led to very serious consequences.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc has held the position of President of Vietnam since 2021. He had previously held the position of Prime Minister since 2016.
