- Fully utilized, it would be possible to produce more electricity than the whole of Malmö and a large part of the region consumes, says Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh (S), chairman of the municipal board in Malmö.

- Prices could drop significantly in the coming winters, says Carl Johan Sonesson (M), chairman of the regional board.

The Öresundsverket was rebuilt from having fired coal to natural gas to replace the nuclear power plant in Barsebäck.

The facility was inaugurated in 2009. During the winters of 2010 and 2011, the Öresund Agency was at full speed.

But quite soon it turned out that the natural gas-fired power plant could not compete with the expanded wind power.

Svenska kraftnät said no to the purchase

The Öresund Agency's owner Uniper has offered Svenska kraftnät to buy reserve power when electricity demand is at its greatest, but the price was considered too high.

In 2018, Uniper received permission from Svenska kraftnät to sell the Öresund Agency.

A Dutch company bought vital parts of the work which will soon be dismantled and shipped to Asia.

- We have received certain signals that it is not completely completed.

says Carl Johan Sonesson, who suggests that it may be possible to prevent the dismantling of the Öresund Agency.

- What we are doing now is courting the state to see if they can be offensive and take the necessary decisions required, says Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh.
