Today, Tuesday, a Palestinian youth was shot dead by the Israeli occupation forces in Hebron, while the United Nations General Assembly witnessed a move against Israel after it took punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority.

And the Palestinian News Agency announced the martyrdom of the young Hamdi Abu Dayyah (40 years old) at the entrance to the Prophet Yunus in the town of Halhul, north of Hebron.

For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that the Israeli army shot a Palestinian while he was trying to shoot at a military force in the area.

Palestinian activists also said that Hamdi Abu Dayyeh was martyred after he shot an Israeli force, and they circulated a picture published by Israeli media of a weapon they said he used in the operation.

The activists published video clips showing the body of the martyr surrounded by Israeli soldiers, and they also published a supposed "will" belonging to the young man, in which he says that he undertook the operation in order to defend the sanctities, and called on Palestinian youth to follow the path of resisting the occupation.

Abu Dayyeh's martyrdom comes at a time when the West Bank is witnessing an Israeli escalation through daily incursions into cities, towns and camps in the West Bank.

Since the beginning of this year, 15 Palestinians have been shot dead by the occupation forces in the West Bank, 7 of them from the city of Jenin, including 4 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

arrests in the West Bank

On the other hand, the Israeli occupation forces arrested 20 Palestinians from separate areas in the West Bank today.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said that the occupation forces launched a massive campaign of raids and arrests in several cities in the West Bank, concentrated in Al-Fawar camp, south of Hebron, where 10 Palestinians were arrested.

The Captive Club added that clashes took place between Palestinians and the occupation forces during the campaign.

This brings the number of Palestinian detainees since the beginning of this year to more than 235 detainees.

international move

And in New York, 39 countries at the United Nations called on Israel to immediately reverse the punitive measures it recently took against the Palestinians.

In a joint statement, these countries said that they reject the Israeli punitive measures that came in response to a request for an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on settlements and Israel's continued violation of the rights of the Palestinians, and more broadly in response to a General Assembly resolution, and called on Tel Aviv to immediately reverse these measures.

The signatories to the statement affirmed their firm support for the International Court of Justice and international law as the cornerstone of the international system, as well as their adherence to the multilateral system.

On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that it is in the interest of all countries of the world to stop what he called the incitement of the Palestinian Authority, and added that what he called meaningless statements and signatures will not prevent the Israeli government from taking the right decisions to protect its citizens.

Guterres condemns

For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres renewed his refusal to subject the Palestinian Authority to retaliatory measures after the UN General Assembly approved the request for the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding Israel's violation.

On December 30, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution asking the International Court of Justice to express its opinion on the issue of the legality of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

On January 6, the Israeli government, headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, responded with a package of sanctions against the Palestinian Authority, which included deducting tax money that Israel collects at the crossings on behalf of the Authority, and freezing Palestinian construction plans in Area C, which constitutes about 60% of the West Bank. It is controlled by Israel, and VIPs are denied "privileges" that include senior Palestinian Authority officials obtaining Israeli permits that allow them to travel in and out of the occupied West Bank.
