The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman, this afternoon, to the ministry's headquarters, after an Israeli police officer blocked the path of the Jordanian ambassador in Tel Aviv as he entered Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Ambassador Sinan Majali, stated that the Israeli ambassador had been informed of a strongly worded letter of protest to be conveyed immediately to his government, confirming the Jordanian government's condemnation of all measures aimed at unacceptable interference in the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and reminding that the administration of the Jerusalem Endowments and the affairs of The Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque affiliated to the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Holy Sanctuary and regulate access to it.

The statement stressed that "it was emphasized that Israel, as the occupying power, must comply with its obligations in accordance with international law, especially international humanitarian law, regarding the occupied city of Jerusalem and its sanctities, especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif, and refrain from any measures that would prejudice the sanctity of places." and put an end to attempts to change the existing historical and legal status therein, or to prejudice the powers of the Jerusalem Endowments and Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department of the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites.
