"Eddie will orchestrate a complete overhaul in the team," the manager told AFP after the announcement of the appointment of the 63-year-old technician, replacing Dave Rennie.

"Eddie and I think we can win the World Cup this year, he added, eight months from the next edition which will take place in France (September 8-October 28). "There is a lot to do but we really believe in our chances.

Eddie has always had World Cup results.

For us, this is essential.

Especially since the next one, in 2027, will take place here.

The Australian coach was sacked in December from his position as England manager, which he had held since the end of 2015. Between 2001 and 2005, he already led the Wallabies, which he took to the Cup final in 2003 of the world (defeat against England).

"Often maturity comes with age in life and I think he's a better coach than 20 years ago," said McLennan, who has signed with Jones until 2027.

As well as coaching the Wallabies, Jones will also oversee the "Wallaroos" women's team program.

He "will be mainly focused on the Wallabies, but women's rugby is also a priority for the federation. We are looking for synergies. This opportunity delights him. As you know, he is a hard worker, he will make sure that works,” added the chairman of Rugby Australia.

Eddie Jones succeeds New Zealander Dave Rennie, who was fired after three seasons and who suffered a disappointing 2022, with five wins in 14 games.

"It was a very tough decision to make and ultimately we are grateful to Dave for everything he has done for our team," added McLennan.
