If the need for electricity is greater than the supply, there is a risk of damage to the power system.

Then Svenska kraftnät can decide to create a power cut.

And it must happen quickly – within 15 minutes in the electrical area where the problems are.

Risk of intentional power outages

During the crisis winter in the electricity sector, planned power outages are a real threat that can affect many.

The city of Helsingborg has therefore made a crisis plan for all schools in the municipality.

There are checklists and suggestions on how to prepare.

At Gantofta school, there is a special level of preparedness.

A crank radio has been purchased and paper and pencils are ready when the computers go off.

A gas grill can fix the food for the students.

- Communication is number one, how we get in touch with parents and the municipality.

Heat, sanitation and food are also important, says caretaker Carsten Cato.

The students can be sent home

There may also be situations when students have to be sent home.

– If the fire alarm goes off, for example.

The students' safety is most important, says principal Pia Alkefelt.

In terms of energy, the school has worked to become less dependent on electricity from the grid.

Geothermal heating is already in place and soon the solar cells will be mounted on the roof.
