.
Suspecting his friend of stealing cannabis plants from him, the 40-year-old went to his home and beat him violently.
The victim, 47 years old at the time of the events, had fled to the Etampes leisure center (Essonne).
He dies in hospital
The man was still conscious when firefighters arrived but succumbed to internal bleeding in hospital.
The accused was arrested in the process for "intentional violence with premeditation resulting in death without intention to give it".
The public prosecutor insisted on the premeditation of the facts and demanded ten years of imprisonment.
The court finally ruled on eight years, retaining the doubt as to the premeditated aspect.
