Domestic violence has increased by 12% in the past six months in the Paris agglomeration, according to an interview with Laurent Nunez, the prefect of police, in the

Journal du Dimanche

(JDD), detailing figures from the prefecture released on Monday.

"This increase is partly explained by the freeing of speech by victims, in particular women, particularly in matters of domestic violence and sexual and gender-based violence, which has been accompanied by the proliferation of measures to better accommodate victims and better treat the phenomena”, comments the prefecture.

More generally, according to these figures, non-villainous physical violence increased by 10.3% in the second half of 2022. These data are in the same direction as previous ones, reporting a 25% increase in domestic violence in Paris, if we compare on the one hand the period between January 1, 2022 and September 30, 2022 and on the other hand the same period in 2021.

Increase in burglaries

Over the past two years, many mechanisms for collecting complaints or taking charge of the voice of victims have emerged in the capital and in the inner suburbs, such as the three women's centers of the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP- HP) or even a specific reception in the police station of the 13th arrondissement in Paris.

The figures from the police headquarters also mention an increase in burglaries of 5% in the second half of 2022. "We slowed down the increase - we were at 30% when I arrived", justified Laurent Nunez at the

JDD

.

With regard to crimes against property, the latter fell by 2%, with violent thefts without weapons decreasing by 20% and armed robberies decreasing by 13%.

Villainous physical violence has also decreased by 20%.
