The body of a man was found this Sunday morning in an abandoned van on a vacant lot in Étoile-sur-Rhône (Drôme).

The discovery was made by gendarmes during the operation set up to arrest an individual suspected of murder.

The body riddled with bullets would be that of the man he is suspected of having killed in Mazan (Vaucluse) and who had not given any sign of life since Wednesday.

His relatives had reported his disappearance to the gendarmes on the night of Friday to Saturday, triggering an investigation and research.

The victim lived for a time in a dwelling owned by the suspect.

She is known to the courts and had served a prison sentence.

The individual placed in police custody may have acted on the background of cannabis trafficking or because the deceased man had become closer to his ex-wife.

To arrest the suspect, the gendarmes were accompanied by a unit from the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN).
