American soldiers attack German police at a train station

German police announced today, Monday, that a number of American soldiers attacked German policemen at the main train station in the southern German city of Nuremberg at the weekend.

The incident occurred after the soldiers got into an argument with each other, the day before yesterday, as they were leaving a local nightclub.

The German federal police intervened and expelled the American group from the club, and they had to forcibly remove a 21-year-old soldier from the scene, after which some members of the American group, out of sympathy for the young soldier, attacked the German policemen.

A German policeman was taken to hospital for treatment as a result of his injury in the quarrel, and the German police began investigations against three American soldiers on charges of assault, causing bodily injury and resisting the policemen, and the soldiers were handed over to the American military police in the city of Vilcek, about 83 kilometers east. Nuremberg, where the US Army is garrisoned there.
