TASS news agency said, quoting an unidentified defense source, that Russia has produced the first nuclear warheads to supply the "Poseidon" super-torpedo for use in the Belgorod nuclear submarine.

TASS quoted the source as saying, "The first Poseidon munitions were manufactured and will be received in the near future by the Belgorod submarine," known as the Doomsday submarine for its super destructive capabilities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced the Poseidon torpedo in 2018, saying it was an entirely new type of strategic nuclear weapon with its own nuclear power source.

Putin indicated at the time that the missile's range is unlimited and that it can operate at maximum depths at twice the speed of any submarine or other missiles.

He added, "Its voice is very low, its ability to maneuver is high, and the enemy cannot practically destroy it. No weapon in the world today can confront it."

The writer, Dmitry Kornev, had stated, in an article in the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" a few days ago, that the launch of this torpedo from a submarine or aircraft could not be traced, and it was difficult to predict what might result from it.

And he indicated that Russia began working on developing a project to establish the fourth component of the nuclear deterrence forces, including missiles and torpedoes, since the late eighties of the last century.

According to experts, given the unlimited range of the Poseidon, it is capable of striking coastal sites in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans, as well as the possibility of using it against a number of ships simultaneously.
