, to the south of the British Isles, will give rise to the intensification of a maritime storm, and of wind and snow, which will affect a good part of the northern half of the peninsula and will continue for a good part of next week, as reported by Aemet in a special notice.

This situation will favor the irruption by the northwest of the peninsula of an air mass of maritime-polar origin, very cold, which will spread in subsequent days to the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, giving rise to intense northwesterly winds, and rainfall that They will tend to be generalized, and that together with a pronounced thermal drop, they will occur in the form of snow at levels that can drop below 500 meters with the possible irruption of a mass of Arctic origin throughout Wednesday.

Also on Monday, the arrival of a joint front and the subsequent retention by a northwesterly wind in the extreme north, will give rise to precipitation, which will spread to the rest of the northern third of the peninsula, and which will be persistent in large areas of the extreme northwest, and in the form of snow in the Cantabrian Mountains and the north of the Iberian system above 900 meters, and in the Pyrenees, where in some points it can occur above 700 meters.

The gusts of wind will begin the day being very strong in the north and northwest of Galicia, and will spread to the entire northern half, into the eastern half of the peninsula and to the Balearic Islands, throughout the day.

Likewise, the strong winds will give rise to maritime storms throughout the day in the Cantabrian area, with winds that can occasionally exceed 80 km/h and waves of between 6 and 8 meters.

As the strong winds spread to the southeast, the maritime storm will also extend to the Mediterranean area, especially to the coasts of the southeast of the peninsula.

In this way, on Tuesday, January 17, precipitation is expected to occur almost universally in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, being less likely in the peninsular Mediterranean area, while a drop in snow levels during the day will make said precipitations are in the form of snow above 600-700 meters in the northern half of the peninsula.
