Helene Biehler did not at first connect that something serious had occurred when she heard the sound of sirens some distance away.

But when her husband told them that a plane had crashed, they quickly decided to go to the crash site.

- Ambulances came all the time and policemen came running with collapsible stretchers.

It was not so easy to see, but we understood that it had been a terrible fire, she says.

It was around noon on Sunday that the plane, which was on its way from Kathmandu to Pokhara, crashed into a ravine near the airport.

At least 68 people are said to have died in the accident, and four are still missing.

- I get shivers when I talk about it.

It has been a tough day, says Helene, noticeably taken by the event.

The plane went in three parts

The aircraft reportedly broke into three pieces when it hit the ground and then fell over a cliff and into the ravine.

The part of the plane that can be seen in pictures and videos is the part that is at the top of the gorge.

The remaining parts are further down, says Helene.

- The wreck is about 300 meters deep, so they have tried to get the last bodies up from the part that is at the bottom with the help of a helicopter and some kind of crane.

It is the job that has now been completed, as I understand it.

According to the country's army, the search mission will resume on Monday.

Used to fly by plane

Helene Biehler says that she herself usually travels with the plane that crashed on Sunday.

- I have flown with these planes many times, so thoughts arise that it could just as easily have happened to me or my husband.

His children were recently here flying this exact aircraft, so it might as well have happened to them.

She has been in contact with people who either witnessed the event, or who were nearby when the plane crashed.

Many are worried and stressed about what happened, but at the same time the mood is characterized by a kind of gratitude.

- This plane crashed in a multi-million city.

That it didn't hit a single house or person off the plane is a miracle.

Many we have met are extremely grateful that the pilot managed to escape a tragedy that could have ended so much worse.
