China News Service, January 15th, a few days ago, there was another incident of racial discrimination in the United States.

A 56-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after repeatedly stabbing an 18-year-old Asian girl in the head on a bus in Bloomington, Indiana, the Associated Press reported.

Bloomington police said Billie R. Davis, 56, stabbed the girl repeatedly with a knife on the bus on the afternoon of the 11th local time.

Officers from the Bloomington Police Department rushed to the scene and the victim was rushed to the hospital with bleeding from his head.

The girl's information has not been released.

Surveillance video from the bus showed no interaction between the two prior to the attack.

Davis was arrested after a passenger who witnessed the attack followed Davis out of the car and reported her location to police, and she will be charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Davis said the victim was targeted because of his race, according to court documents.

Davis told police she stabbed the woman multiple times in the head with a jackknife because "that leaves one less person to destroy our country."

"This week, Bloomington University was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hatred is real and can have a painful impact on individuals and our communities." Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs at Indiana University "No one should be subjected to harassment or violence because of their background, race or culture," James Weinbush said in a statement.

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton also called the incident "unacceptable" and said it would "be dealt with accordingly."

"We know that racially motivated violence like this can make us feel unsafe when it occurs across our community ... and we stand with the Asian American community and all who are racially threatened," Hamilton said in a statement. "

The Associated Press pointed out that in recent years, Asian Americans have increasingly become the target of racially motivated harassment or attacks, especially after the start of the new crown pandemic.
