Marika Markovits was ordained a priest in 1994 and for the past two years has been deacon in Stockholm.

When she was ordained a bishop on Sunday, she became the first female bishop in the Linköping diocese.

At the same time, Erik Eckerdahl was ordained a bishop in Visby diocese where he was also ordained a priest in 2000. Since 2018, he has been the director of the Samariterhemmet diakonie in Uppsala.
