A 45-year-old Briton died on Saturday after being caught in an avalanche while hiking with two other people in the Mont Blanc massif, the gendarmerie and the emergency services said on Sunday.


The facts occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the Argentière glacier.

A British couple was hiking with a mountain guide when an avalanche broke out which buried the woman under a slab, according to the gendarmerie.

Despite the intervention of the emergency services, "the person unfortunately died", it was indicated to the PGHM of Chamonix.

The other two people are unharmed.

The PGHM of Chamonix was in charge of the investigation and an autopsy was requested by the judicial authority.
