A grandfather in his 80s who worked as a cashier at a large supermarket in the United States celebrated a warm retirement thanks to a customer.

Recently, foreign media such as the New York Post of the United States and the BBC of the United Kingdom told the story of 82-year-old Warren Marion, who was a naval veteran.

After completing her military service, Marion worked in a car factory before retiring.

However, he has been working as a Walmart cashier for several years, unable to plan for retirement due to lack of money for retirement.

In the meantime, something unexpected started when Lori McCarty, a TikTok influencer with about 300,000 followers, accidentally stopped by this Walmart in December of last year.

He shared a video of Marion calculating on TikTok and said, "The little old man is working 8-9 hour shifts."

He then opened a fundraising page on the online fundraising site 'Go Fund Me'.

Laurie McCarty said, "I was surprised to see an elderly man still working," and suggested, "Let's help him meet his children and enjoy the rest of his life."

Then, more than 5,000 people participated in the fundraising, and soon about 141,000 dollars (176 million won) were raised.

Finally, Marion's retirement and donation ceremony was held in the Walmart parking lot last week.

Reporters from local media and many people attended the event to celebrate his retirement.

"I don't know if I deserve this kind of support," said Marion. "It's unbelievable."

He also said he would "go to Florida to see his family," and he walked out on his last way home from work.
