The explosion occurred in the municipality of Pasvalys in northern Lithuania.
No one was injured, but on Friday there were reports of 50 meter high flames following the incident.
Defective welds
Now Nemunas Biknius, head of the gas company AB Amber Grid, says that everything indicates that it was an accident and not sabotage.
- A possible explanation is that the explosion was a result of defective welding joints on the pipeline, but the investigation will provide all the answers within several days, he says according to AP.
250 people were evacuated
After the explosion, 250 people from the nearby village of Valakeliai had to be evacuated as a safety measure.
By midnight the fire was out and during the Saturday the residents could return to their homes.
Now the damaged pipeline is being repaired.
