At least nine people have been killed in Russia's massive airstrikes in Ukraine, AFP and dpa news outlets reported on the 14th local time.

Valentin Leznichenko, governor of Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, said at least 12 people were killed and more than 60 others were injured in an artillery bombardment at an apartment complex in Dnipro.

Located about 390 km southeast of the capital Kyiv along the Dnipro River, Dnipro is the fourth largest city in Ukraine after Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa.

Among the injured are 12 children, and there is a possibility of additional deaths as rescue operations continue in the wreckage of the collapsed apartment.

According to local media reports, apartment residents trapped in the rubble are waiting for rescue by sending signals with cell phone lights.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the West for more weapons to prevent further casualties from "Russian terrorism."

He emphasized, “Everyone in the world knows what and how to stop those who sow the seeds of death.”

"It is still unknown how many people are under the rubble," he said. "Unfortunately, the death toll is rising every hour."

On the morning of this day, several explosions and shelling damage occurred in the capital city of Kieu.

Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kiu, also said: "I heard an explosion in Dniprowsky, in the area to the left of Kiiu."

He said missile fragments had landed in some districts in Kieu, but there were no reports of casualties.

In the town of Kopiriu, on the outskirts of Kieu, there was also damage in a residential area, including broken windows, Klitschko added.

Kieu Governor Oleksi Kuleva said, "In the village of Kopiriu and elsewhere, 18 privately owned houses were damaged with broken windows and damaged roofs."

It was the first time Kiiwu was exposed to airstrikes since the night of January 1, the Associated Press reported.

A missile also fell on Kharkiv, the second-largest city in northeast Ukraine.

"Russian forces fired two S-300 missiles at Kharkiv's industrial district," Kharkiv Governor Oleg Sinegbow said.

Energy facilities were destroyed in the airstrikes, but no casualties were confirmed, Gov. Sinegbow explained.

“Current emergency response personnel are working to restore destroyed energy facilities and stabilize power supplies,” he added.

Missile air raid warnings followed one after another in central and southern cities.

The central city of Cherkasy informed citizens that Russia may launch a missile attack in the late afternoon and ordered them to evacuate when air raid sirens sound.

Shortly after the news of the air strikes in Kyiu and Kharkiv was announced, Governor Vitaly Kim of Mykolaiv Province warned of possible air strikes, saying, "Russian Tupolev strategic bombers have taken off from the air base."

In addition, Odessa in the south and Lviv in the west were also damaged by shelling.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had intercepted 25 of 38 Russian missiles on the same day.
