The appeal was broadcast on the Peru TV channel, RIA Novosti reports.

“As a president, as a mother, as a woman from Apurimac, I understand and share your indignation that the state is deeply indebted to the people,” Boluarte said.

The President also expressed condolences in connection with the death of compatriots during the protests and stated that attacks and vandalism are unacceptable, especially "under the pretext of social discontent."

“I apologize for this situation, for allowing these tragic events,” Boluarte said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office of Peru opened a genocide case against the country's president.

It was also reported that the death toll during the protests in Peru rose to 48.
