Roscosmos said on the 14th that it has taken measures with the space agency of the partner country of the International Space Station to ensure that the crew of the space station can return to Earth safely in the event of an accident before the arrival of the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft.

Due to the previous emergency on the Soyuz MS-22, its crew Russian cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin and American astronaut Frank Rubio will be aboard the Soyuz MS-22. -23" to return to Earth, the spacecraft is expected to dock with the International Space Station in uncrewed mode on February 22.

The Russian National Aerospace Corporation stated that the current systems of the International Space Station and the "Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft" are operating normally, but if an accident occurs before the arrival of the "Soyuz MS-23" spacecraft, the crew will need to evacuate back to Earth urgently.

A decision has been passed to temporarily move Rubio's seat from the Soyuz MS-22 to the Dragon spacecraft, which will take place on January 17-18.

In the event of an emergency evacuation, Rubio will return to Earth on the "Dragon" spacecraft, while two Russian cosmonauts will travel on the "Soyuz MS-22".

Arranging only two astronauts on the "Soyuz MS-22" will help the spacecraft return safer, because it will reduce the temperature and humidity in the cabin.

When the "Soyuz MS-23" arrives at the International Space Station, the seats of the three astronauts, including Rubio, will be transferred to the "Soyuz MS-23" spacecraft.

The "Dragon" spacecraft is the first manned spacecraft built by a private company in the United States that can transport astronauts to and from the space station. It is also the first new manned spacecraft certified by NASA after the Space Shuttle to routinely transport astronauts to and from the space station.
