From our correspondent in Bangalore,
From Communists to Hindu nationalists, we salute a man who marked
the history of the young Indian democracy
and the memory of its citizens.
Of socialist obedience, Sharad Yadav became known in the 1970s by fighting the authoritarianism of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
What is worth to him to pass several times under the locks.
When the state of emergency was lifted in 1977, he helped forge the Janata Party, a coalition that overthrew the Indian National Congress, a first since independence.
This new government will bring the lower caste Indians into democracy and Indian politics.
Equality between citizens
The Janata Party will then split between supporters of an alliance with the Hindu nationalists, under whom Sharad Yadav will serve as minister, and more secular and regional parties which will reconnect with the Indian National Congress (INC).
Elected seven times as a deputy, Sharad Yadav will work tirelessly for the equality of citizens.
We owe him the adoption of the Mandal Report in 1990, which will institutionalize positive discrimination and quotas for castes in India.

“
His death is an irreparable loss to the country
,” Interior Minister Amit Shah said.
“
I learned a lot from his struggle and his humility
,” said
Rahul Gandhi
, Indian National Congress figure and grandson of Indira Gandhi.
The grudge is forgotten, as Sharav Yadav himself affirmed during his lifetime.
