The public prosecutor's office is investigating the 24-year-old accident driver for murder because he is said to have driven at a significantly excessive speed on the Gustav-Stresemann-Ring.

We are talking about 130 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 50.

The reconstruction was supposed to take place before Christmas, but was canceled due to the weather conditions.

During the reconstruction, the public prosecutor's office was not concerned with reproducing the collision or the journey of the person who caused the accident at the presumed original speed.

Instead, routes and fields of vision of the drivers should be documented.

Identical car models

The department K 11 of the criminal police had previously organized an identical Mercedes CLS 350 and a VW Golf.

With the support of the University of Public Management and Safety, 360-degree cameras were installed in both vehicles, which provided an all-round view from both drivers' perspectives.

An additional 360-degree camera documented the field of view of an accident witness.

First, the accident was simulated under similar lighting conditions as at the time of the accident in flowing traffic.

After that there was a passage without the usual evening traffic.

For this purpose, a section of the Gustav-Stresemann-Ring was closed for half an hour.

Several trips at 70 km/h

According to the police, in the course of the documentation, the Mercedes was moved several times at a speed of 70 km/h over a distance of almost 400 meters along the Gustav-Stresemann-Ring out of town to the accident site at the Wittelsbacherstraße intersection.

According to the police, driving at the suspected accident speed was not necessary.

During both rounds, the fields of vision of the accused, the victim and the witness were recorded and documented until shortly before the collision.

The material will be evaluated later.

According to the police, virtual reality glasses are used to illustrate the recordings in order to be able to simulate the suspect's journey up to the original speed.
