The gas pipeline between Lithuania and Latvia suffered an explosion

Amber Grid, a Lithuanian gas transport operator, told Reuters that an explosion hit a gas pipeline linking Lithuania and Latvia on Friday.

A video clip, broadcast by Lithuanian satellite channels, showed a fire breaking out at the site of the explosion in Panevezys County, northern Lithuania.

Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reported that the flames rose some 50 meters (160 feet) into the air and could be seen at least 17 kilometers (11 miles) away.
