Security barometer for the fourth quarter of 2022 shows that more than one in three merchants state that they have recently been the victim of theft or petty theft.

According to Swedish trade's calculation, around SEK 8.5 billion was stolen in 2021, and SEK 4.5 billion was in the grocery trade.

- These are costs that traders can no longer afford, they are enormous sums, says Nina Jelver, Acting Head of Security at Swedish Trade.

Few report thefts

SVT Nyheter Småland has produced figures that show that the number of reported supports increased at the end of 2022, both in Kalmar and Kronoberg counties.

At the same time, the Swedish trade report, which was released on January 11 this year, shows that only half of the thefts are reported to the police.

- Every other trader does not report to the police lower.

They don't think it's worth it as nothing will happen.

There will be no investigation or convictions, says Nina Jelver.

What do you think should be done?

- The police must start investigating the crimes and prosecute.

It is important to send the signal that it is not okay.

It is criminal and there will be consequences if you commit this type of crime, because we are not there today.
