Two former staff members of the Bourg-de-Péage handball club (Drôme) were taken into custody in Romans-sur-Isère on Tuesday.

Heard for facts of embezzlement from the coffers of the team, the man and the woman recognized the facts, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

60,000 euros would have been paid into their personal accounts.

The man is suspected of having appropriated 27,000 euros and the woman 34,000 when they were in office at the handball club.

The two suspects, a 38-year-old ex-secretary and a 31-year-old former manager, were released after their one-day police custody.

The investigations started in 2021 must now continue.

They had started after a report to the prosecutor made by Nathalie Nieson, Renaissance mayor of the city.

The association managing the handball club had filed for bankruptcy and been put into liquidation shortly after the start of the investigation.
