The EU meeting in Kiruna has begun and is also the start of Sweden's presidency of the EU for the coming six months.

The European Commission, the Swedish government and a large number of journalists are present.

NATO is in focus, but there is also great curiosity from foreign journalists about the Sweden Democrats, according to SVT's David Boati who is on site.

Among other things, how much influence the party has on the Swedish government and what it means for the ambitions to find European solutions to the climate issue and migration.

It is something that has also been rewritten in foreign media, among other things the AP news agency has written: "The far right's shadow looms over Sweden's EU presidency".

In SVT's Morgonstudion, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson says that he "doesn't understand that criticism at all".

He states that he has already discussed with the parliament how Sweden views European cooperation and stated that the parties are united.

- Now we are eight parties out of eight who are in favor of Swedish EU membership, who are working to solve things together, he says.

"Then Sweden will adapt"

In the existing climate package, an increase in the EU's minimum level for the reduction obligation is proposed.

On Thursday, the Sweden Democrats' climate policy spokesperson Martin Kinnunen visited Aktuellt, and was asked about the party's climate work.

- There is no need to push further.

Here is the risk that you have gone too far and that instead Europe will lose competitiveness to other countries outside Europe, he said in the program.

Kristersson says that Sweden does not want a much higher reduction obligation than other countries.

However, they want a common European level, to which Sweden will adapt.

- Then it will be the same for all countries throughout Europe.

This is exactly what we also agreed upon between the government and SD in the Tidö agreement.

Then I think climate policy must be much broader, more offensive than just dealing with the reduction obligation.

So the concern that exists in some places in Europe, that SD would gain influence that could slow down the climate goals, is it unfounded?

- Yes, it is completely unjustified.

Sweden will have a very ambitious climate policy, but we will not put all our energy only on the reduction obligation.
