Magnus Genrup drew attention to the news of the explosion early and says that this type of explosion at a gas line is very unusual, especially in Europe.

- A gas line doesn't just break by itself.

You can get leaks, usually the pipes connect, and if something ignites there it starts burning of course, but you don't get this kind of explosion.

The gas pipeline operated by the company Amber Grid is one of two gas pipelines running between Lithuania and Latvia.

But how important it is for the energy supply is unclear.

- I don't know the wiring itself or what the network looks like there.

But normally you always have other options so it shouldn't be a problem to handle for them.

By 8 p.m., however, the fire was out.

At the moment, it is not known what caused the explosion.

- You can't answer that now.

But you learn to be able to answer that question after you have finished the extinguishing work.
