A 54-year-old woman died on Monday morning at La Verpillière station (Isère) after being hit by the TER she had to take to go to work in Lyon (Rhône).

Shortly before the arrival of the train, the victim fell on the tracks, says

.

Despite the low speed of the train, the driver was unable to brake in time.

The first elements of the gendarmerie investigation showed that the victim could have lost his balance by tripping over another passenger's scooter as she walked on the platform.

When emergency services arrived on site, the woman was in cardiopulmonary arrest and could not be resuscitated.

The Smur also had to take care of several witnesses to the scene, who were very shocked by what they had seen.

Some 3,000 travelers take the train every morning at La Verpillière, said the mayor of the town.

The elected official asked for security arrangements within the station "which has already been the scene of dramas in the past", he indicated.
