It was on Sunday that the police were called to an apartment on Porsön in Luleå by the mother of the 8-year-old after the handover of the son did not take place.

When the police entered the father's apartment, the son was found dead and at 18:04 the father was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was initially taken to hospital to be treated for his own injuries, but was arrested by prosecutors on the lesser level of suspicion.

After an initial questioning of the man, the degree of suspicion was strengthened.

- The father is questioned and denies any crime, but we think we have a picture of what has happened, said prosecutor Lindha Strömberg after the first questioning.

Protracted custody dispute

One of the motives currently being investigated is a protracted custody dispute that has been going on for most of the boy's life.

At the time of the suspected murder, the father was entitled to two hours of visitation on Saturday and Sunday every other week.

- There has been a custody dispute and that is something we are looking into, said prosecutor Lindha Strömberg on Tuesday.

During the detention hearing, which took place behind closed doors, the now detained man participated heavily bandaged on his forearms and also plastered around his neck.

According to the prosecutor, the man has not explained the injuries, but she believes that the injuries are related to the incident.

- Yes, it looks like that, says prosecutor Lindha Strömberg.

The man is suspected on probable cause.

The District Court considers that there is a risk that he deviates or otherwise influences the investigation.

On January 26th, prosecution must be brought.
