The article said pressure on Georgia to provide Buk systems "may well be a sign of desperation."

The author writes that the situation with Ukraine's Buk and S-300 air defense systems is approaching a "critical point", and there are "very few" other potential suppliers of air defense systems compatible with Soviet military equipment. 

Earlier, Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in Georgia, Andrei Kasyanov, announced Tbilisi's refusal to return to Kyiv the Buks received in 2008.

The Ukrainian side also asked Georgia to transfer American Javelin anti-tank systems.

Kasyanov said that Tbilisi did not agree to provide military assistance to Kyiv.
